Ten families are pursuing lawsuits against Jones for allegedly spreading lies about the shooting, going so far as to call it a plot orchestrated by family members. The New York Times reported this week that the families won several decisive victories in their lawsuit that will force Jones to open his business records and speak with prosecutors under oath.

Jones, the owner of Infowars and a far-right figurehead, has come under increased scrutiny for his popularizing of a theory that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged by the federal government, and that no one was injured or killed. He claimed that “crisis actors” portrayed the parents and relatives of the murdered students and staff.

The report states that several of the families of victims of the shooting have been chastised and criticized by harassers who took Jones’ crisis-actor theory and ran with it.

According to the Times, the suits by the Sandy Hook families have advanced on several fronts in recent weeks. Jones and members of Infowars were ordered to submit to questioning and turn over relevant business records, which his defense lawyers attempted to keep sealed.

In Connecticut, a judge ordered Infowars representatives and business associates to testify, and a ruling is expected as soon as this month on the families’ requests to depose Jones and several Infowars reporters.
